New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen joined forces with members of the Springs Close Foundation by matching each others donations and contributing $100,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The donations will go toward feeding needy families in Ft. Mill SC.

How did a New Jersey native find the Second Harvest Food Bank in Ft. Mill, SC? How are members of the Springs family possibly related to Bruce Springsteen?

Bruce Springsteen’s donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank came about as a result of a concert tour that brought Springsteen to the greater Charlotte area. Springsteen decided to make a donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank but wanted to have a matching donation. The Springs Close Foundation board had already approved a $30,000 donation to the food bank prior to Springsteen’s donation. When approached by the food bank, the foundation approved an additional donation to match Springsteen’s $50,000 contribution.

The Springs family may have more in common with Bruce Springsteen than just a need to give back to the community through charity. Both the Springsteen and Springs families have Dutch roots. In fact, the Springs family name may have shorten from Springsteen.
